An .htaccess file is a directory-level configuration file used by Apache web servers. It can control redirects, URL rewriting, caching, compression, access rules and custom error pages without editing the main server configuration.
This generator targets Apache 2.4 and common shared-hosting environments. It does not configure Nginx, LiteSpeed native configuration, IIS or a server where AllowOverride is disabled.
Place it in the document root of the website or in the directory the rules should affect. On many shared hosts, the document root is public_html. Existing hidden files may need to be enabled in your file manager.
Do not replace it blindly. Download a backup, then merge the required sections carefully. WordPress and caching or security plugins may maintain their own marked blocks.
The server may not support a directive, a module may be unavailable, or the syntax may be invalid. Restore your backup first, then add one section at a time or ask your host to check the Apache error log.
No. The configuration is generated in your browser and the form is not submitted to the website server.
